     An electric generator needed to be powered on a vehicle while it was at idle or being driven. The speed of the generator had to be kept constant in order for the electrical alternating frequency to be correct, in spite of the engine’s varying RPM. By using a hydraulic drive with a load sensing controlled pump, the flow to the hydraulic motor was kept constant; not only for changes in electrical load placed on the generator, but also for changes in engine RPM. To make this application harder to fulfill, space under the vehicle was limited. So, to keep the components small, a high drive speed and a high pressure were used. Parker’s P3 axial piston pump allowed for a 2500 RPM drive speed, due to its internal super charger and it is rated for up to 4,600 PSI (5,300 PSI intermittently) operating pressure. A 145 cubic centimetre per revolution (8.85 cubic inch per revolution) pump was used to produce a constant 75 GPM flow while the pumps drive speed varied between 2,000 and 5,000 RPM. This transmitted 200 horsepower to the generator with the vehicle at idle, traveling on the highway or at any speed in between.
